Ruma + Yasir: Couple Session

After many months of scheduling and rescheduling, we finally got the chance to work with Ruma and Yasir, a great couple we got to know through Hassan's sister. We also finally had the opportunity to shoot in Rhodes Hall, a gorgeous 1904 mansion in Midtown.
Ruma is as I suspected — one of the sweetest girls we've met. She loves the camera and it's easy to tell that it loves her back.
Yasir was a little hesitant in front of the lens at first, but he warmed up quickly. They were both very comfortable and easy to work with, and choosing just a few to post was incredibly difficult.
Thanks to both of you again for working with us, and we hope you enjoy this sneak peak at your session! :)

Ava: Newborn Portraits

Last weekend we had the wonderful opportunity to work with one of our favorite couples again. We shot Marjorie and Jeff's wedding, pregnancy portraits, and now we had the chance to photograph their beautiful baby girl!
It's been a while since we've had the chance to work with a newborn, but Miss Ava was great. And we loved seeing Marjorie and Jeff again, and their immediate family was there to offer encouragement. Everyone was lovely and so easy to work with, as usual! We have such great clients!
As we suspected, Ava looked adorable in all the shots. Thanks again, Marjorie and Jeff! We're going to miss you guys. Enjoy! :)

Brent + Cary: Engagement

Brent and Cary are that cute couple you see constantly joking with each other, and their laughter is infectious. And you can also see how much they care about each other in their laughs.
We met this great couple through a mutual friend, Rashida (we'll get her pic up here one day!), and loved them from the start. So we were very excited to be able to shoot their engagement photos.
We all took a stroll through Piedmont Park, and the day was lovely despite the fact that it's July in Georgia. The pleasant weather made it that much easier to get some fun shots. That and they are always very easy to work with. :)

Karie: Bridal Session

Karie Gayle is the quintessential girl next door. She’s kinda quiet, very sweet and easy to work with. I got a call from her last week inquiring about a bridal portrait session, which she was eager to get done before moving to Orlando, FL. She told me she was married recently, and judging from the photos we got with her on Tuesday afternoon, she was a stunning bride! Karie was so easy to work with that it was difficult to narrow down her photos to just a few for our blog! What a pleasant problem to have. :)

We shot in the Little 5 Points/Inman Park neighborhood, one of our new favorite haunts. And I’d like to give a special thanks to Julie Ross, an artist who saw us shooting outside and let us into the Bass Lofts. This was a pretty neat place to shoot because, as you might notice from the photos, the building is actually a 1920s high school transformed into lofts. Thank you so much for allowing us to spend a little time in your lovely home!

Marjorie + Jeff: Maternity Portraits

Recently we had the pleasure of working with some familiar faces at their home in Decatur. We receives a Facebook message several weeks ago from Marjorie (one of our lovely brides from fall 2007) inquiring about maternity portraits, and we were thrilled at the news of her pregnancy and the thought of working with her and her husband again! Their beautiful wedding ceremony was held in the north Georgia mountains on a brisk fall day, and they were both so easygoing that it was impossible not to get some beautiful shots.

Once again, they didn’t disappoint! Marjorie glowed through the entire shoot (which is easy to tell in her photos) and after some initial reluctance, Jeff seemed to enjoy himself as well.

Congrats again on your daughter Ava, and thanks again for the opportunity to work with you again!

Shomyla + Omar: Reception

Iran Protest in Atlanta

Last Saturday I went to the CNN center to take a few photos of the protest for Iran. It was very hot and humid and the crowd just grew every hour that I was there. The protest was rather large and for the most part a peaceful one. There were some conflicting views from different people at the protest but for the most part everything was cordial.

There was one incident that irked me. Three guys came up to me and told me to stop taking photos, and one of them even threatened to break my camera. I found this extremely ironic considering they were protesting Iran's governments suppression of Iranian's protests and speech. They even took me to a police officer. Who told them (like I told them multiple times) that they are on public property which means photography is fair game. If they didn't want to photographed maybe in the future they shouldn't protest on public property (kinda defeats the purpose of a protest) and maybe not protest in front of one of the biggest media conglomerates in the world.

Those guys clearly don't know what living in a free society is about. This comes with the territory. The rest of the people I had the chance to talk to were very nice and we had great discussions. Typical example of a few ruining the image of many.

I had a fun time and more importantly got some great images.

Mijha Bridals

Yesterday we had the pleasure of meeting up again with one of our favorite couples, Mijha and Runako. We owed Mijha a bridal portrait session, and she made the fantastic suggestion of shooting in the Inman Park neighborhood. Though I’m a frequent visitor to Little 5 Points, I hadn’t ventured to this area before.

We got a great combination of fun, colorful shots with all the graffiti and art on the buildings, and some very soft, classic veil shots in a small park in the middle of the neighborhood.

As per usual, Mijha was an absolute joy to work with, and she was working it ANTM style. ☺

Today our good friend and Lindsey's previous roommate Emily came into town. So we decided go out and eat at a great Indian/Pakistani restaurant called Zyka in Decatur. We got there only to find out that Zyka was closed leaving us not only severly disappointed but more importantly with a hole in our stomach. So after lots of ideas being thrown around we decided to head to China Inn a great Chinese restaurant in Chamblee only a few minutes away from our place. Even though we all had our hearts set on eating at Zyka, China Inn was not a disappointment at all. I ordered the Hunan Beef. Though it was a good dish it was just very similar to the typical Mongolian Beef at all Chinese restaurants. I think in the end I should have gone with Lindsey's choice of Mango Tofu, which has always been a favorite of ours. Emily had the Mango Shrimp, which was similar to Lindsey's dish but with the obvious shrimp substitution for tofu.

Urban Exploration Pt. 1

So I took my camera to class today. Now, granted I always take my camera everywhere I go (the photojournalist in me...) however I usually don't take the time to snap any pictures before or after class. So today when I had a few minutes after class, I took the time to walk around the GSU campus and snapped some pictures. It was a lot of fun.

Editing, Editing, Editing...

So, it seems all I have been doing lately is editing and working on some albums I need to design. Since I have been on the computer so much lately I have decided to start blogging a lot more as well. I am going to start posting a lot of my non-business photography on our hkblog. You can get to know how my photography is outside of the wedding and portrait environment. I enjoy recreational photography as much as I do our commercial work with couples and families. Which is why I think this will be a great way to get to know us better than just wedding photographers or portrait photographers. Now, back to editing before I have to head to my Weather and Climate Class. You can see some pictures later on today, however until then you can only hope that you could follow Mr. Kitty's example.

In February, we visited Flip Burger Boutique for Hassan's birthday. Luckily, our flight attendant friend Emily was in town as well as a few other of our friends who we don't get to see as much as we'd like. The food was all right, but at least the company was great. :)

Playing Catch Up: Savannah Trip

The first few months of 2009 have been hectic, so it's been tough to keep up with the blog. But this past week we had a little time to go through all the photos we've taken recently and process them. So now I have to play a little catch up. :)
In January, we took our first trip to Savannah, GA. I'm ashamed to say that this was my first trip to the beautiful city. And it was exactly that — gorgeous. We stayed at the River Street Inn, which was surprisingly comfortable and beautiful on the interior. Not to mention it was in a great central location.
Most of our photos were of the city's impressive and historical architecture. We took a trolley tour, and here's some of the striking things we saw throughout the city:

For lunch we went to Vic's On the River, one of the historical restaurants in downtown. This is a pretty view from our table.

Mijha + Runako Wedding Pictures

On Sept. 20, we had the pleasure of photographing Mijha and Runako’s wedding. We’ve had the opportunity to get to know this couple over the last few months, and I can honestly say I’ve never met two people who were more complementary. Mijha is bubbly and outgoing, and is obviously the life of every party. Runako is more laid back, quiet, and is the rock of the relationship. And the great thing they have in common is that they’re both crazy about each other, as is apparent from their pictures.

Their wedding was beautiful, and a great success. They made our jobs very easy, and we wish them all the best in life, love and in their marriage. Here are a few pictures we caught at their wedding:

Yesterday we had the great pleasure of taking engagement photos of Mijha and Runako, a great couple we met a few months ago. I have to say, they are one of my favorite couples. Not only is it obvious that they're madly in love, but they are such great complements to one another. Mijha is energetic and effervescent while Runako is laid back. Both of them are fun and uninhibited, and the result was great pictures. They were such a joy to work with, and I look forward to working with them on their wedding day. Maternity Shoot: Tamara

We had a blast working with Brian and Tamara this past weekend! It was so easy to get some beautiful shots because Tamara was so comfortable with herself and us. She also brought a specific vision of the kind of images she wanted into the equation, and the result is some of our best work thus far. We also had the pleasure to work with Mara (their lovely niece) who, by the way, is not easily bribed into posing for our camera. I hope all our future clients are as wonderful as Brian and Tamara were.

This really is one of my favorite pictures to date. It was inspired by a great pregnant pic of Brooke Burke.

The first picture was so wonderful, I had to get a profile.
This picture is so cute. I just love Mara's quizzical expression.
I adore this portrait of Brian and Tamara, and the beautiful shadow their bodies cast. It was nice to work with the wall painting they've done in the baby's room.
This was such a hard picture to pull off. We've never had to bribe anyone so much, but it was worth it.

Sai's Maternity shoot

Sai’s Maternity Pictures-

I had the honor of taking pictures of one of my greatest friends. I have known Sai since middle school, and we have always been great friends. This weekend I had the distinct pleasure of taking pictures of her pregnancy. I am absolutely thrilled with the pictures I got of Sai and her future daughter Kaya, not to mention her firstborn Alex.

I loved this picture as soon as I saw it in the camera's viewfinder. It is one of my favorite maternity shots.
I love this picture, because of the glow around Sai. It's a glow that is around every mother.

This picture is significant because Sai is wearing the traditional Thai clothing. The colors are so vibrant and beautiful.

In this one Sai is wearing a Saree at her mother in-laws request.
I adore this picture because Alex just happen to peek around right when I snapped the picture.

The wedding of Jodi and Brian was an exceptional event. We had plenty of time to shoot, which made it really easy to get some great shots. It was really wonderful to see all the love in the community for these two, since they all live so close to family. This wedding really was so easy to capture because of all the wonderful people that we met and got to work with. Never has getting through the formals been so easy, but with the help of Jodi’s mother Sonya, it was made possible.

Now for the pictures

This picture I tried some new stuff on, I really liked the look. It looks like more than just a photo, to me it looks like art.

I really loved this shot as soon as I saw it in the camera, what a wonderful moment I got to capture!
Everyones eyes were on Jodi the whole day, and it is really easy to see why.

I absolutely adore this shot because of the flow that you see from the veil.

Wedding: Allison + Joshua

The first thing I have to mention about this wedding is how beautiful and warm the venue was. The Grove Level Baptist Church in Maysville, GA hosted the wedding, and it was beautifully but subtly decorated with festive colors (apple red and green were the colors chosen for the wedding) and the entire staff was great. From the pastor down to the caterers, everyone was patient and cooperative, and I really look forward to possibly working with them in the future.

Allison and Joshua were also spectacular. It was refreshing once again to see a couple who adored one another. Both of them were very understanding and gave us numerous suggestions (which we always appreciate). Their friends and families were also cooperative and nice to us, and I can only wish all of them the best of luck with their very bright future.

We recently photographed the wedding of the fun couple Marjorie and Jeff Pyron. The entire wedding party was great to work with, and there was no pressure whatsoever. Wedding: Rachel+Anthony

Last Saturday we shot the wedding of Rachel Bell and Anthony O'Bannon. I had to write a special post for this special couple, because after spending an entire day with them, I love them almost as much as they love each other.
Though the day was crazy (as weddings always are) I was surprised by how well Rachel handled everything. She was a vision of grace, and though some mishaps occurred (all of which were out of her and our control), they were great to work with.

I have never met such genuine, sincerely nice people. Rachel is hilarious and charmingly self-deprecating. Not to mention she has a contagious smile! And Anthony is great is well. Though he was nervous, he hid it very well

I was also very impressed with the coordinators at the venue, the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. They did their best to fulfill the wishes of the couple, and went the extra mile whenever possible.

Engagement: Rachel and Anthony

So we went to Centennial Olympic Park again this week to do an engagement session for Rachel and Anthony.

Rachel and Anthony are truly one of the most fun couples we have met. They joke around so much and it really is great to see in a couple. I also have to add that I have take a lot of photographs over the years but these two were the easiest to work with. I mean I didn't have to give any direction because they were so in love and it shows in the pictures.

Rachel also has one of the most beautiful smiles to will ever be able to see, she is also so funny, and Anthony is really a genuinely nice guy. Their personalities were really captured in their engagement shoot.

I really appreciate Rachel and Anthony choosing us to capture their most important moments.

Portrait: Payne Family

On October 13th, 2007, I had the pleasure of photographing three of Porter Payne's wonderful children in Centennial Olympic Park next to their grandfather's statue (Porter "Billy" Payne). This portrait session was a blast.

I can't say I have had this much fun on a portrait session before. Not only were these kids easy to work with, but each had a very distinct personality.

Presley Payne, who is 6.5 years young, was such a delight. She wasn't camera shy at all and always managed to find her way in front of the camera lens.

Two-and-a-half year old Cassidy Payne also has a great personality. She was very fond of her older sister, or her "big sissy," who she followed around quite a bit. Porter informed me Cassidy is a great problem solver for her age and he expects her to be a CEO of a Fortune 500 Company, and Presley a sweet cheerleader. They showed each of their personalities, and the camera captured them very well.

Billy Payne, who is one year old, was also a great camera subject. He really made me feel as though I wasn't even there, particularly since his main focus was playing with the batteries from my flash.

Each of the kids was so great to work with, and so darn adorable. I look forward to more portrait sessions with them in the near future.

A little information about our recent price increase.

As of October 1st, 2007 our price will increase on all packages. This increase is due to the high demand of bookings we have been receiving as of late. We are starting to notice that our prices are really low compared to the work that we put into capturing your wedding. As much as this might draw away customers we want you to know that we are not cheap photographers, and we certainly don't want that impression to hurt our business.

We are also adding another package that will be above our premium package. This new package will include a excellent quality 10x10 album and few more goodies that we know people will enjoy for years after their weddings.

If you booked before Oct 1st, 2007, than we will honor the prices that you booked on. We really encourage people to ask us any question that they might have about our prices.

I had a distinct pleasure to be able to secondshoot with Stacey Bode. I met her at a local workshop and we hit it off really well. I have learned so much from her and I hope I have giving her a few pointers as well. I was really great to see her shooting style in action.

Stacey and I got to photograph such a beautiful couple at the Park Tavern in Atlanta. I have only seen a few couples in love as much as these two were. Everyone was so incredibly nice and great to work with. This wedding Stacey was the main photographer, so all I focused on was the photojournalistic approach. None of my pictures were posed except maybe the few I took of the couple when Stacey was posing them.

This wedding truly was a blast. There was so much dancing and partying. We got quite a few pictures of the swing dancing.

Wedding: Krystal+Adam

Krystal and Adam's wedding lead us to Rockmart, Georgia.

I had a great time at this wedding, we met some great people and everyone was really easy to work with. We did run into one snag on the way to the wedding, which was to not get proper directions for the wedding location (mapquest will not be used again). This however, was about to be great problem, luckily we found some great people on a BMW motorcycle with a Garmin unit. These people (we didn't get their info, and they left without saying goodbye) were so generous as to actually lead us to the wedding location.

So it Begins...

"Here's to a bright and new future..." were the words that echoed in my head this past Saturday as I stood atop a small step stool looking down through a massive lens on my camera and framing the bride's beautiful white dress as she shapes it for my partner's formal. I couldn't believe that there I was, my first day on the job. Almost like a dream come true. For years I've dreamt of being able to do something with that big black box that I have so protectively strapped around my neck and help shape a better future for myself and those who came across the images that were produced with it.

The day couldn't have started any better. I had a full nights rest and my mind was on one thing and one thing only. I made it a goal that day to do something that could have a positive impact on someone's life. I set out to not capture a bride posing for her formals or a groom standing on his back heels with his hands in his pocket, instead I was on a mission to catch the most gorgeous smile, the most heartwarming hug, the most joyous laugh, or the the most sincere tear. After all that was said and done, the images produced spoke in an entirely different language of emotions that I couldn't be more proud of.
It wasn't an easy feat I must say. Endless nights of flipping through magazines and internet portfolios, learning and absorbing as much information as I can have truly paid off. For the lack of experience, we relied heavily on what we knew and applied it like a seasoned surgeon in an operating room. But that is just the tip of the iceberg. The bride and groom was such a perfect couple to work with. Many thanks goes out to Vicky and her newly wedded husband Reynolds for inviting us to the most important day of their life. I feel very privilege to be there and felt like I was part of the wedding. Everyone was so kind and patient and I hope all of our future clients were this easy to work with. So here is the beginning of our journey and we hope that we find our way into a chapter in your life novel. We hope that we can add pretty pictures to make up for the almost microscopic font size in the book. =) As the saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words."
